So... why do we have midterms anyways? The whole concept seems archaic. The stress alone is enough to turn to the bottle... or the gun. Here I am, a student, tired as fuck on a tuesday morning. This really isn't any different than any other tuesday morning in that I was late to my 8 am class like usual, except last night I was up super late reading over bullshit we had already been tested on, not up super late lookin at porno (okay, okay... I watched a little porno last night too).
But really, midterms? The whole point is to gauge a student's knowledge of a subject. But really, wouldn't it be more useful to test the students of their ability to critically think about the subject, not just whether they read or not? I suppose that you couldn't really apply this theory to certain subjects such as mathematics, but even a lot of sciences are based upon if you can memorize certain formulas, complicated terms, &c.
I can stay up til 5 in the morning memorizing bullshit that I'm going to forget the next day, or I can be asked questions pertaining to the subject that will help me critically analyze what I'm supposed to be getting out of any given class. Because in the end, does a teacher really expect you to remember dates, figures and labels? No. Just a general mastery of the subject, to the point where you would be able to talk about it comfortably and with knowledge.
Can I get a witness?
